Like many acne sufferers, before you investigate ways to dispose of pimples. It is vital to know the physiology behind it. The bacteria that cause pimples are called Propionibacterium acne, which live on everyone’s skin, as a potential culprit. They become a problem only when a pore becomes blocked. However, to find new therapies to prevent and treat these annoyed pimples, the molecular biologist Huiying Li an assistant professor of molecular and medical pharmacology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA decided to take a closer look at the acne bacteria contain “bad” strains. As part of the study, the scientists used pore-cleaning strips to collect propionibacterium bacteria from about 100 volunteers.
Propionibacterium bacteria, had clear or pimply skin, live deep within follicles and pores, and in the most individuals it poses no problem. The research also found that it contains more than 1000 different strains of the microbe, which has never been identified before. When they cultured the bacteria from the strips, they discovered two important strains, RT4 and RT5, are associated with pimples. They also found the “good” strain- RT6- the use of viruses to kill acne-related bacteria.
“We were interested to learn that the bacterial strains looked very different when took from diseased skin, compared to healthy skin,” explained co-author Dr. Noah Craft, a dermatologist at Harbor–UCLA Medical Center.
The result brings new hope to acne sufferers, the scientists believe that increase the “good” strain of propionibacterium bacteria through a simple skin cream.
